Japan 07-10-1982 Stadsgehoorzaal Leiden (OOR)

China-ware Cabinet

The only Dutch concert was a great comeback after a rainy open air failure three years ago. Strange that there was only one concert in the Netherlands. The band is big enough for more concerts in larger venues. Japan has their own musical identity now they have released “Tin Drum”.

“Tin Drum” is an interesting mix of western pop music and eastern traditional music. They played almost all of the songs from this album with a good sound and a high technical level of playing with the fragile “Ghosts” as a climax. Keyboard player Richard Barbieri looked like an accountant and David Sylvian grew pale of the wild guitar playing from the Japanese Masami Tsuchiya. The setlist was a good mix of older dance songs and recent tunes. It was a perfect kabuki theater performance. We were not allowed to touch it but could only watch it breathless.
