Japan Fanzines

Before the WWW, one way in which fans got together to share articles and pictures was through fanzines.

Bamboo

J:MUSA

Talking Drum

JAPS

Other Fanzines

Standard Life/JAPS (UK 1985 - 1987)

Standard Life was produced on a shoestring budget by JAPS fan club leader Jayne Spears, and was a lot of fun, like an enthusiastic punk zine, hand-written and including amusing features such as "The many Smiles Of David Sylvian". Standard Life, after 3 issues changed into JAPS, which also ran for 3 issues. JAPS = Japan Adorers Penpal Society!

Includes a transcription of the Record Mirror article on the USA tour and a poll of club members likes and dislikes.  standard2.jpg (15800 bytes)
The best issue by far of the whole series. Astounding. Like Japan meets Monty Python. standard3.jpg (17722 bytes)standard.jpg (19581 bytes)
This issue was a lot more serious and was an attempt to be more like Bamboo. Includes a transcription of the first Fan Club interview and an exclusive handwritten Q & A with David. japs1.jpg (11450 bytes)
